Propane goes pink for ACS

The usually blue Ferrellgas trucks went pink for a good cause Saturday. Ferrellgas teamed up with the American Cancer Society for their "Think Pink" event Saturday in Marion.

The fundraiser was organized to help support the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" event, which will be Oct. 23 in Carbondale.

The event featured a special pink propane gas truck, giveaways, promotional items and information about preventing cancer.

Todd Saddoris, general manager of Ferrellgas in Marion, said Ferrellgas has a tradition of helping organizations such as the American Cancer Society. At their "Think Pink" event Saturday, Ferrellgas was filling gas grill tanks for $12, with $4 from each fill going to the American Cancer Society.

Saddoris said the event is an opportunity for business to give back to the community.

"I think as a business operator or owner it is our duty in the community to do things like this," he said. "It's a lot of fun to do them as well. And the focus is just on the raising of funds for the cure of cancer."

Jennifer Lee, regional director for the American Cancer Society, said her organization participated in the fundraiser to share educational information about preventing cancer and to explain patient service programs the American Cancer Society has to offer to people living with cancer.

She said the American Cancer Society likes to take any opportunity to share with people steps they can take, such as eating healthy and exercising, to help prevent cancer.

Lee said her organization is grateful to receive help from the community during fundraising events such as the "Think Pink" event.

"We're always happy to partner with local businesses," Lee said. "It is very valuable to take our message out to any venue we can."
